Cruising is going to be a bit different as we come back from this world pandemic. Many people who love cruises will have some more questions about their safety and sanitation practices of their ships. One big step is to practice social distancing which we all know and hear about all the time on the news but that will be very hard on those mega ships.
How will I personally get back into cruising again? On smaller ships with fewer people of course! Being on a smaller vessel means less contact with masses of people. It means a smaller number of staff members but a higher quality of service. It means smaller ports without massive crowds of tourists. It means docking in private coves and exploring hidden beaches.
Because Windstar Cruises was next on my list to personally experience, I wanted to highlight a few wonderful points about them. Their ships only have up to 350 passengers instead of the thousands that you can typically see on a larger ship. This means the staff to guest ratio is great for any cruiser. More personalized service equals a better cruise experience for me.
Another big selling point for me is the complimentary watersports platform at the stern of the ship. It is lowered to the water where you can literally jump off for a swim or grab a kayak.
There are plenty of spaces outside like at the pool or jacuzzi to get that fresh sea air. Dining and drinks on the deck are also where you will find me. You are also allowed to visit the bridge and hang out with the ship’s officers to really learn what it is like sailing on these beautiful ships.
Although there are no balconies, the state rooms are fresh and bright. They are beautifully appointed with marble or granite vanities and Egyptian linens. Soft lighting. Beautiful artwork. Soothing, seascape color schemes. Every stateroom and every suite has been redesigned to Windstar’s standards and style. Slip into your cozy robe and comfy slippers and surrender to the mesmerizing ocean view. Stocked mini-bar and 150 Ocean View Stateroom anyone?
With the number of on-board guests being small, excursions and expeditions are also smaller. You get a more personalized experience here too with guides that specialize in the destination taking you to new places and teaching you new ideas. I am especially intrigued with the Windstar Signature Expeditions which is an immersive program that features 8 expert guides who stay on board throughout the voyage, giving informative talks and taking guests on optional adventures by foot, by kayak, or by Zodiac boat – sometimes launching straight from the ship in remote places like Misty Fjords and Kenai Fjords.
Overall, this small ship company rates at the top of my list to travel with and I can’t wait to start exploring the world again with them!
