Naples & Capri

Italy tops many lists for travel destinations. I’ve personally been there twice and can’t wait to return. Although travel physically is difficult right now, I can still dream about returning to this spectacular country.

When people think of Italy, Rome comes to mind but my first trip was actually to Capri through Naples. When visiting, it is helpful to arrange a car service upon arriving. Although this airport is easy to navigate, sometimes after a long flight, it is just better to have someone waiting for you who can speak your language.

If you want to explore the area, look no further than the Romeo Hotel located by the city center. You will have spectacular views of Mt. Vesuvius and the bay. Along with the many hotel amenities like a pool, spa, and cigar bar, you’ll find their Michelin-star-awarded il Comandante Restaurant. There is plenty to do around here so go out and explore. People travel from all over for the pizza of this region so come hungry!

A short cab ride away is the ferry that will take you to the beautiful islands of the area such as Capri and Ischia. Have concierge check the schedule to plan a day trip if you are staying in Naples. This is also how you would get to the islands if you are staying there. It is a beautiful ride to the ports as you travel past the dormant volcano on your way to paradise.

Capri is a stunning little island filled with luxury shopping and dining. Celebrity sightings happen all the time so keep an eye out for who is around. You will also run into a lot of tourists especially when the cruise ships are in port but once they leave, it is much more quiet. There are tons of boutique hotels here so take your pick on the style that fits you.

One of my favorites is JK Place Capri. It is set into the cliffs of the island and although modern, has classical touches everyone comes to Italy to experience. They too have a pool and spa along with fantastic dining options. They are even pet friendly so feel free to bring along your furry friend.

Paolin Capri is a dining option that I highly recommend so ask to get reservations from the hotel. It is by the port but set back a bit from the main road. There, you will dine under lemon trees with twinkling lights and the most fresh Italian cuisine you will ever taste. Save room for dessert. There is an entire room where you just walk in and pick what you would like.

Shopping in the main area of the island will be at the top of the island. Spectacular views of the sea can be found at almost every turn. Boutiques like Prada, Valentino, Roberto Cavalli and Louis Vuitton just to name a few are fun to browse. There are also smaller local shops that are great. Gelato is spectacular here and the cafes along the pedestrian streets are well worth the time to sit back and people watch. There was one on the main square by the Church of Saint Stephen that was perfect to sit back and relax while the crowds explored the town.

Overall, this destination is well worth the journey even if you have been here before. There are just so many things to see and do in this area. No trip will be exactly the same.
