Getting ready for your next luxury vacation is exciting! You are going to see so many new places and experience so many new perspectives. Here are a few tips from expert luxury travelers to keep in mind as you are planning your journey and exploring your new destination.
Tips From Expert Luxury Travelers
Travel Tip One
If you are traveling internationally, check the expiration date of your passport. Some countries have rules about how long your passport needs to be valid. For instance, many countries in Europe require your passport to be valid at least 6 months after your return home. This is to make sure that if there is an issue and you have to stay in the country longer than expected, you can still get home.
Travel Tip Two
Get that travel insurance. Many people skip this little add-on but it can be a real value when you need it. Many health insurance companies, especially in the United States, do not cover you if you are outside of our boarders. Insurance also covers delays like if you miss a flight or connection. Lost luggage is covered up to a certain amount. Can’t get home because of a quarantine situation? No worries. They have you covered.
Travel Tip Three
Stay hydrated. Jet lag can be made even worse if you are not properly hydrated. Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout your travels. You probably are walking a lot more than you are used to while sightseeing or running to catch that flight. I especially like Evian Facial Spray so my skin stays hydrated in they dryer climates such as an airplane cabin. Plus it is within in the allowance of TSA regulated liquid containers so you can easily keep it in your carry-on for easy access. Click here to check it out.
Travel Tip Four
Put a shoe in your hotel safe. If you are using the safe in your hotel room, place an item like a shoe or something important in there as well. This way you won’t forget your valuables when you are packing to leave.
Travel Tip Five
Pack comfortable shoes. From walking long distances to get to your airline terminal to seeing that great museum exhibit, make sure your feet are comfortable. Wear a pair of shoes that you have already broken in to avoid blisters. Even heels should be something that are easy to walk in and not hurt your feet. Those stilettos may look cute with that dress for dinner but you still have a lot of walking to do the next day.
Travel Tip Six
Pack clothing that sticks with a color combination. For instance, I pack a lot of black items with different pops of color. This way, I can mix and match outfits and know everything will be coordinated. It also limits the number of shoes I need to bring. I also look for materials that do not wrinkle easily so I can just pull clothes out of my suitcase and hang them up without having to send them out to be pressed.
Travel Tip Seven
Be mindful of your surroundings. We all want that romantic experience of walking on the waterfront at night, looking at the beautiful city before you. Keep in mind that your safety is important. Make sure you have a companion with you or that someone knows where you are going. You may be in a big and beautiful city but even in the nicer areas at home, there is still crime. Go out and explore but do it in a safe manner.
Travel Tip Eight
If you are visiting a country that has a different language than you are used to speaking, learn a few local phrases like ‘Hello’, ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’. It can be frustrating trying to ask for a price of that antique in the local shop and not being able to communicate (let alone negotiate). Many tourist areas in Europe and around the world speak a bit of English, French and German.
The younger generations especially in Asia can also speak English because of their love for YouTube content. As a last resort, download the Google Translate app to your phone before you leave. There is a feature where you can speak into your phone and it will talk back the translation. You can also scan a sign or menu with your phone’s camera and it will translate that for you too. Make sure to also download the language you will need so you can use the feature off line. This was very helpful last time I was in Slovakia and was having trouble picking up local dialects.
Travel Tip Nine
Wear fake jewelry. Pack that cute costume jewelry and play around with the outfits you pair it with. You don’t want to worry about leaving thousands of dollars of precious pieces locked away at the resort or losing a bag that you have them stored in. You can still take that perfect selfie with a cute necklace you found at a local street vendor and then just have another piece to add to your collection back home, filled with great memories. Travel Tip Ten
Consult with your local travel advisor. They will help you navigate all of the changing rules and regulations around the world. If there is an issue, you can make one phone call or send one email and the situation will be handled (sometimes even before you know there is even an issue). Ask them for some of their tips and tricks for traveling as well. Each destination has its own challenges so they can get more specific for you and your perfect luxury travel experience. It just makes sense.
